Domino’s Pizza holds its awards every two years, and I have photographed the last two editions with a managed photographer team rather than a single camera: the 2024 awards, and the 2026 awards at the ICC in Birmingham, where the client booked me back. It is the clearest example of how I cover large events: several photographers, one point of contact, one consistent gallery, one invoice.
The brief
An awards night for a national brand has too much happening at once for one photographer. Winners on stage, presenters, sponsors, branded moments, table candids, the room itself before anyone walks in. Miss one and it is gone. The client, working through their events agency, needed every winner and every key moment covered, without managing several suppliers to get it.
What I delivered
- A team sized to the room. Four photographers for the 2024 awards, three for the 2026 awards at the ICC Birmingham, positioned stage-left, stage-right and roaming so nothing on stage or on the floor was missed.
- One point of contact. I project managed the entire shoot for every photographer on the team, and every conversation before, during and after the event ran through me. The client and their events agency dealt with one person and booked a result, not a group of freelancers.
- One consistent style. Every photographer was briefed to my shot standards and every image went through one edit, so the final gallery reads as one photographer with impossible reach.
- Posed and candid. Guest portraits with the branded props, candid table and dance-floor coverage, and the room layout and decor photographed before guests arrived.
- Dressed to the brief. The whole team wore what the client specified, neon ties one year, red braces, bow ties and moustaches the next, so we belonged in the room rather than standing out from it.
- The boring things that matter at this scale. Every camera writing to two cards at once, galleries backed up the same night, public liability cover, risk assessments and method statements supplied for the venue on request.
The result
A single gallery covering the whole night, delivered as one job. The client came back for the next edition two years later and booked the team again for the ICC in Birmingham, which is the review that matters most.
Why this matters if you are planning a large event
Most photographers are one person with one camera. For a conference, an awards night or a multi-room event, that means choosing what gets missed. A managed team means nothing gets missed and you still deal with one supplier, one invoice and one consistent gallery. I offer team coverage for larger events across Yorkshire, the North of England and the whole of the UK, and I work white label for agencies whose clients need it under their own brand.
